Day Treatment programs are delivered in school and residential settings and represent a partnership between the Centre and a school board. The Centre currently hosts four programs with a capacity of 48 clients, consisting of long-term and short-term placements. These programs are divided into Anglophone and Francophone treatment services: the Anglophone program is in the City of Ottawa, in partnership with the M.F. McHugh Education Centre, and those in French are in partnership with Le Conseil des écoles séparées catholiques de langue française de Prescott-Russell. Day treatment provides clients with a therapeutic, structured, meaningful and directed learning program. As these programs address the academic needs of the client, they simultaneously provide support to the treatment plan of the student. A goal of placement in day treatment is reintegration into the regular school system; however, a further specialized educational placement may be necessary to meet the needs of the individual client.
Who May Refer
Clients residing within the City of Ottawa or within the United Counties of Prescott-Russell are referred by their respective schools and/or boards of education, and are placed on the recommendation of the local Coordinated Referral committee. The referring school and/or board of education maintains partnership in the case management of the referred student.
Admission Criteria
The student must:
- be a resident of the City of Ottawa or Prescott-Russell
- be enrolled in a school governed by one of the above-named school boards at the time of referral
- be able to function at or above the borderline range of intelligence
- be assessed as presenting a “clinical picture” that is moderate to severe in degree of disturbance
- be demonstrating evidence of the potential to change within the resources available
- be demonstrating an appropriate fit for the specific treatment services available
- unable to cope in a less restrictive treatment/educational environment
- present with behavioural difficulties amenable to a short-term remediation
